Google Fires 28 Employees Over Israeli Government Contract Protest
Google has terminated 28 employees who participated in sit-in protests against a Google Cloud contract with the Israeli Government Contract Protest, following the suspension and arrest of nine employees in the US. The company stated that such behavior is not tolerated in the workplace, emphasizing its commitment to enforcing policies against disruptive conduct.
The protests stemmed from objections to a $1.2 billion contract with the Israeli government, with the group behind the protests condemning Google’s actions as retaliatory. Google defended its decision, asserting that employees have the right to peacefully protest but that termination resulted from violations of company policies.
In response to the controversy, Google conducted investigations and took action against those found involved, terminating their employment and reaffirming its commitment to address disruptive behavior within its workforce.
